It is a pity I cannot say the same for once you get in because the queues for food and drink are huge and totally unacceptable. With a little thought and more space given to concessions, this can be overcome.

We were in the grandstand and had reserved seats. The course is massive and the actual track is a picture, far grander and nicer than the somewhat cramped courses we have at home in England. Putting on a bet took a bit of working out but we soon became proficient and I had the Derby winner! The weather turned glorious. The sun came out, we had blue skies all day and it became very warm.

We had the most fantastic day, very enjoyable. Lovely time at the Panorama Restaurant. We live interstate and recently attended the Flemington racecourse on the 4th day of the Flemington carnival Emirates Stakes day , and it was a truly wonderful experience!

We decided to pay a bit more and purchased a dining package Panorama Restaurant. I called the VRC direct to find out what was the best package for us and both Pandora and Gayle were fantastic - very patient and accommodating.

We decided on a table for two this was the only restaurant on course that allowed for tables of less than 10 , and when we arrived it was a delight to see a splendidly set up room, where the tables were elegantly decorated and not too crowded together. The dining staff were very friendly and contributed greatly to making it such a special occasion. There was quite a nice selection of wines available included in the package price and the drinks waiter was very attentive - although not being big drinkers I think we disappointed him by not partaking of his services very often.

The food was delightful and there was a lot of it available throughout the day - we were quite surprised by the quality of the food, it was lovely! The package also provided us two seats in the covered Hill grandstand - just outside from the restaurant and in a fantastic position above the finishing line, with a great and uninterupted view of the entire track. This meant that we were able to see all the racing action from the perfect vantage point.

The cost? Overall it was a truly memorable experience and we would be keen to return again and do it another year soon. Well done all round by the VRC. Toni S Melbourne, Australia 3 contributions. Does anyone have recommendations of whether to go into the stands or the precinct? We are attending this year and want something a bit better than general admission. Jeffry B Melbourne, Australia 4 contributions. The stands are definitely better if it rains, which it often does. You also get a better view of the track. Boutus Darwin, Australia 7 contributions. We are booked on a cruise to the Melbourne Cup We have general admission included in our cruise cost but would like to sit in a reserved area that we can see the races and be dry in case it rains.

Wondering what Saintly Place would be like, can anyone who has actually sat in this area at the Melbourne Cup give me there opinion if it was worth the money.

We were at the Cup and booked a package which included tickets for the Hill Stand.
